Dear Friends,

I want to thank you for your support since December 23, 2008.

We ran a significant and positive campaign. We kept it positive and respectable. To those who volunteered: sent emails, made calls, worked polls, gave of their resources, we are especially grateful to you.

I want to correct the Chronicle’s characterization of my position relating to the results of the March 2, 2010 Republican Primary (“Incumbents Base Losses on Ethnic Bias” 3/4/10).  I have never in my life directly felt the effects of racial bias, nor have I ever accused anyone of exhibiting prejudice against me due to my Hispanic heritage.  This includes my assessment of the Republican voters in this week’s Primary Election.

I am more determined than ever to work for our Republican principles and the leaders who uphold them.

Now, more than ever, we need to rally around qualified and credible leadership. Our future and our way of life is at stake.

Thank you and God bless,

Leo Vasquez

Vasquez Responds To Lone Star Project Allegations

KPRC-TV Channel 2 Houston | June 06, 2009

HOUSTON -- A political group is demanding change in the Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office after what some are calling an employee controversy, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.

The Lone Star Project said associate voter registrar Ed Johnson is a paid Republican consultant

It said that is a huge conflict of interest.

"As we speak, a Republican political operative who worked for Dwayne Bohac and his clients like Pat Lykos and Ken Legler is determining who is registered to vote in Harris County and who is not," said Matt Angle, the director of the Lone Star Project.

Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Leo Vasquez released a statement that said, "I have stressed to our staff the importance of maintaining the highest ethical standards, while focusing on customer service and enhancing efficiencies. The citizens of Harris County are being forced to waste tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars responding to these frivolous lawsuits and baseless allegations."
